Which payment methods does Basetao take?

Payment is where agents lose European buyers. Many take only cards (with a surcharge) and PayPal, while AliExpress lets Dutch, German, Belgian and Portuguese shoppers pay the way they pay everywhere else. Basetao is closer to AliExpress here than most agents:

Paying by a bank method avoids card surcharges and, for many people, feels safer than a card on a site they've just met. The trade-off is dispute rights: a card or PayPal payment can be challenged if something goes wrong; a bank transfer usually can't. For a first order with any agent, the method you can dispute is the safer choice even if it costs a percent more.

Verdict: Basetao is one of the few agents EU shoppers can pay the AliExpress way. Use the disputable method for your first order anyway.

How do you use Basetao's long free storage?

Basetao's other strength is time. Its homepage advertises up to 180 days of free storage; KakoGuide's review recorded 120. Either is longer than most agents' 90 days, and it changes how you can use a spreadsheet:

• Build slowly. Order a few items a month and ship once, at the end of a season. One parcel means one set of shipping minimums and, in the EU, one €3-per-category duty calculation instead of several.
• Wait for sales. Chinese marketplaces run large sale events; long storage lets you buy early items at full price and add sale items later.
• Set a reminder anyway. Plan to the shorter figure — 120 days — until your own account shows otherwise.

This matters more since the EU rule changed. Since July 1, 2026, parcels worth under €150 owe €3 for each item category, with VAT still charged via IOSS. An AliExpress order is usually one store, one parcel, one duty charge; a slowly built Basetao parcel spreads that charge across everything in the box.

Why Basetao chargeable weight surprises people

The main complaint about Basetao in KakoGuide's review is chargeable weight coming out higher than expected. That's usually volumetric weight at work: couriers bill whichever is higher, the real weight or the box's size converted to kilos. Trainers in their boxes and puffer jackets are the classic culprits.

Two habits fix most of it: ask for shoe boxes to be removed before packing, and request the parcel's dimensions before you choose a line. If the chargeable weight looks wrong, question it before paying; once the parcel is on a plane, the bill is settled.

Twelve years is a long time in this market. Pandabuy, WeGoBuy, CNFans and AllChinaBuy have all gone in that period while Basetao kept its Guangzhou warehouse and its old-fashioned website. Its search interest is modest in the US and higher in France, and 'basetao reddit' is one of its steadier searches, which fits an agent known more by word of mouth than by marketing.

Longevity isn't a guarantee, but it is evidence. Basetao has survived raids on bigger rivals, rule changes in the EU and US, and the rise of newer agents with slicker apps. For buyers who value a long record over a polished interface, that counts for something.

Your first Basetao order, if you only know AliExpress

Basetao's website looks older than most, and there's no app, so the first order takes a little more attention than an AliExpress checkout. Paste the Taobao, Weidian or 1688 link into the order form on basetao.com, write size and colour in the remark (in centimetres if you can), and pay for the item. When it reaches the Guangzhou warehouse you'll get QC photos; ask for a measurement if the size is borderline. Only when your haul is complete do you submit the parcel, choose a line and pay for shipping.

If you're paying by Sofort, Bancontact or Multibanco, check the currency on the payment screen and keep the confirmation email: bank methods don't give you a chargeback route, so your records are your protection.
