Since the end of the $800 de minimis exemption, every AliExpress parcel entering the US is subject to duty. What changes from order to order is who collects it and when:

There's no honest single tariff rate for 'AliExpress'. Duty depends on how the product is classified and on trade measures that have changed several times since 2025; a calculator that applies one flat percentage is guessing. The practical rule is to prefer listings where the charge is included or shown as final at checkout, so the total you approve is the total you pay.

Verdict: Look for 'import charges included' or a final checkout line. Avoid orders that leave duty to the carrier.

Sales tax on AliExpress orders in New York

Separately from duty, New York and most other states require large marketplaces to collect sales tax on orders delivered there. AliExpress adds it at checkout based on your delivery address, so a New York City order carries state and city sales tax on top of the item price and any import charge. It appears as its own line on the order summary.

The combination matters for comparisons. When you weigh an AliExpress item against the same thing from a US retailer, compare totals after tax on both sides; a US retailer charges the same sales tax, but not the import charge.

Delivery in New York: carriers and timing

Most AliExpress parcels reach New York through USPS, which starts tracking once the parcel is handed over in the US. In buildings with a mailroom or doorman, add your apartment number to the first address line; without one, USPS Informed Delivery shows what's arriving, and missed packages wait at the local post office. Parcels on express lines are more likely to be left at the door, which in the city is a risk worth weighing.

If the guaranteed delivery date passes, open a dispute; AliExpress refunds orders that never arrive. For items that turn up different from the listing, the window is 15 days.

Several AliExpress parcels or one agent box?

In the US the argument for combining parcels is less about the duty rate, which applies to the goods either way, and more about how many times you go through customs. Each separate parcel is a separate entry, and each entry that isn't settled at checkout is a chance of a carrier or broker fee:

US agent lines are also priced differently now: many advertise 'duty included' for clothing and similar goods, with a weight limit, and cost more per kilo than before 2025. Ask for a quote on the whole box before assuming it's cheaper.
